BookThink's Top 10 on eBay November 2007 by Pamela Palmer #116, 10 March 2008   Which fiction and non-fiction books are winners on eBay? Fiction sales focused on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows with a smattering of Faulkner, Puzo, Koontz, and King making up the remainder. Non-fiction, though, was diverse. An Easton Long Road to Freedom topped the list which included the Beatles and Chagall among others. The most interesting item(s) came in last. Seems the same copy of Atlas Shrugged managed to sell two days in a row. Both were sold by the same US seller as BINs with what appears to be the same photograph. And, of course, classifying Atlas Shrugged as non-fiction only adds to the interest. In the run up to the holidays, November Antiquarian & Collectible sales were brisk. Three of the 5 top sales in the category were by Best Offers, still fairly unusual among the upper range there. The #1 item went for $4,000 shy of the $19,500 BIN price but perhaps that was due to it being "pick up" only in Switzerland. A Gent from Bear Creek and Peter Beard, Collector's Edition also sold as best offers. eBay Fiction Top 10 November 2007 #1 $2,325.00 Signed J.K. Rowling Listed by a US seller, the book received 26 bids to close at $2,325. #2 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows J.K. Rowling The second copy in the November Top 10, this one was listed by a Canadian seller and ended with a single bid. The seller had an astonishing 73.7% feedback (9 feedbacks). #3 The Godfather Mario Puzo The 1969 first printing is called "extremely rare" and received 28 bids. Items specifics shows it as a hardcover with jacket listed in the "Fraternal, Social Organizations" category. #4 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. J.K. Rowling The latest Harry Potter is the third of that title for the month. Listed by a US seller, it sold as a BIN. #5 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows J.K. Rowling The fourth of the title received 8 bids. #6 Mosquitoes William Faulkner Listed by a US seller and described "in good condition with rubbing to extremities," the book was sold with a dust jacket described as "very poor, chipped, stained ...." It received 12 bids. The same seller sold #7. #7 Sartoris William Faulkner Another William Faulkner, this time Sartoris was sold by the seller of #6. It's a 1929 first edition in dust jacket. The book is described as in good condition and the dj is in very poor condition. It sold with 9 bids. The same seller sold #6. #8 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows J.K. Yoeman Listed in like new condition, the 1987 signed limited "40th ANA" edition sold for $2,500. #3 Harlem as Seen by Hirshfeld Al Hirshfeld and William Saroyan One of 1000 copies printed, the book sold after 6 bids. #4 Hamburg Days The Beatles Selling as a BIN, copy #249 of #250 was signed by George Harrison. #5 The American Monument Lee Friedlander New in shrinkwrap, the 1976 first edition received 11 bids. #6 Boston Base Ball Club Sold in a charity auction. the 1897 Red Sox book received 15 bids. #7 Jerusalem Windows Marc Chagall 7 bids took this copy of Jerusalem Windows to $1,124.06. #8 Margin of Safety Seth A. Klarman Described as "in extremely good condition" with a "practically flawless" dust jacket, this copy sold as a BIN. #9 Atlas Shrugged Ayn Rand Listed by a US seller, the book seems to have sold as a BIN for $900, but it also appears as #10 on this list. #10 Atlas Shrugged Ayn Rand Though it appears to have sold for $950 as #9, the same US seller seems to have sold a book with an identical photo the next day for $950.
